Juziers

We took eight display boards to Juziers for an exhibition in the Bourg (the new complex by the Church) which was viewed by the mayor and his deputies at the welcome reception as well as all the hosts and guests taking part in the twinning.  Juziers dans l’histoire (The Juziers history society) had a display showing a timeline for the last thousand years and we were given a handout summarising their display which was in the form of a frieze like the Bayeux tapestry.  You will see a picture of part of the frieze and an adapted version of the summary of 1000 years of Juziers history.

In turn, we offered a bilingual handout and below is an adaptation of the English part of it.

1 & 2 Two boards about Thomas Turner, our famous author of an 18th century diary, the man, his family, his interests, his work (by David and Anthea Burrell)
3 Photographs of the village 1890 – 1910 (digitised and enhanced by Chris Young).
4 Photographs of 2008  taken from the same viewpoint as the board of 1890 – 1910 , i.e. 100 yearsafter the first board (by Chris Young)
5 Some villagers of the 19th century with a map of the early 19th century by Andrea Goodridge and June Tidswell.
6 The church – some pictures and explanations ( by Linda Allen)
7 & 8 Two boards which show some listed buildings, which are also the homes of friends of the twinning together with a list of the people and the home page of the website of our society (by Russell Brown and Andrea Goodridge).

There are a number of pictures showing both the French and English displays as well as the visitors viewing and discussing the exhibition.  The project was a real team effort on both sides of the Channel and the co-ordination of the text and staging resulted in many emails checking English and French translations being sent between Andrea (from East Hoathly) and Jean ( from Juziers).  We look forward to future Anglo-French cooperation on similar exchanges in order to share our heritage, appreciating our similarities and differences.
