First Exhibition of the Local Heritage Initiative Project

“RESEARCHING THE HISTORY OF EAST HOATHLY & SURROUNDING VILLAGES”

The following report is an extract from the Autumn 2006 newsletter of the East Hoathly & District Preservation Society

To be seen at the exhibition were:

Slides and photographic plates already transferred into digital format by Chris Young shown as photographs and also projected on to a screen using the project equipment of laptop computer and digital projector.

Habitat map and notes of 1997 with Eddie Goodridge who was recruiting recorders for the Sussex Biodiversity Centre

Jane Seabrook, our respected local historian with an amazing display of photographs of local history and books

Jonathan Walker with his history of the Gate House illustrated with digitally projected images as well as books, papers, photographs and records of his research.

Gillian Hamilton-Cramp and Carol Foster with a selection of Laughton memorabilia and wonderful photographs.

Jill Ford with Deeds of Warnham Cottage, once part of the Chichester Estate, who offered advice to others on interpreting and research house history.

David Burrell’s display of his research on the Pelhams, the Richardson family and Hilders in Chiddingly and the Kings Head.

Eric (David) Myers was also on hand to train and advise on archiving, June Tidswell was noting what was brought in and showing some Preservation Society archives and Mervyn Barnes exhibited the Village Plan.

We had 50 visitors between 7.30 and 9.15 which was very encouraging with people bringing photos and artefacts along for identification, listing and display e.g. a wonderful album of wildlife photographs was brought in by Jack Blakiston.
